Exploring the Heart of TUTWA

Tutwa Consulting Group (TCG) was in initially established in South Africa in 2009, restructured into a PTY LTD in 2016, and set up its regional office in Mauritius in December 2021. Tutwa Consulting Group works across all areas of political risk analysis, economic research and analysis, regional integration, and policy advocacy. The company has been running development projects across Africa since 2013 leading to its restructuring into a PTY LTD company in South Africa in 2016. We advise clients on trade and investment policies, capacity building services, strategies, and market entry insights.

Tutwa has strong connections with all the stakeholder groups for political, economic, and regional integration projects in various sectors across Africa. These groups include government, regional and international institutions, think tanks, private sector and civil society. Private sector development is a key objective for Tutwa as trade and foreign direct investment are economic development imperatives for the continent. The company's directors and shareholders have worked directly with regional and international institutions including the African Union (AU), the African Union Development Agency (AUDA)-NEPAD, APRM, African Development Bank, SADC, SACU, COMESA, World Bank Group, OECD, and the WTO. Most recently, Tutwa has forged partnerships with business associations and a burgeoning relationship with the University of Mauritius Economics and Statistics Department, Mauritius WTO Research Chair.

Trade and Investment Policy

Tutwa Consulting Group delivers expert analysis on trade and investment policies, helping businesses, governments, and organizations understand their impact on global, regional, and national value chains. We focus on the regulatory frameworks of global trading systems, particularly the WTO, the AfCFTA, and other inititiatives facilitating regional integration in Africa.

Our Mauritius and South Africa service offers specialised government and stakeholder mapping and advisory.

Our analysis is rooted in a political economy approach framed by policies and regulations at global, regional, and country levels, specifically:

  • The global and multilateral trading systems, particularly the World Trade Organization.
  • Regional economic integration groupings, particularly: Southern and Eastern Africa; West Africa; North Africa and the Gulf region; South America; and the European Union.
  • Country policy and regulatory environments in the same geographic regions, and also the United States.
  • We also provide a focused South Africa service, extending to key government and stakeholder mapping and advisory.

Institutions and Political Risk

Government policy changes are inevitable, especially in emerging markets with fragile institutions. This creates uncertainty, compounded by political risk in contested power environments.

Tutwa Consulting Group's expert team, with deep experience in analyzing political economies and regulatory landscapes, strong public sector networks, and influence in public debates, is well-equipped to help clients navigate and mitigate these risks.

Market Entry Advisory

Expanding into international markets, especially emerging ones, presents challenges like "institutional voids" (lack of regulations) and "liability of outsidership" (unfamiliarity with the local context), increasing risks for companies. Reducing these barriers saves time, cuts costs, and minimizes strategic risk.

With expertise in international political economy, trade, and investment policy, Tutwa Consulting Group helps companies navigate these challenges effectively.
